Alight I am going to be honest, yesterdays class scared me a bit. I am supposed to come up with a new twist on sunflowers... something that has not been thought of before. Goodness, this feels like a daunting task and I am completely dreading it. I suppose I have only been putting it off for two days. I need help getting over this fear. Any advice?

Let's see...
ReplyDeleteWhy did you choose sunflowers? Why are they important to you? Maybe you can look back at your narrative and figure out what made you feel that you wanted to write about them, and within that will be a path to take for the project. If that doesn't lead you somewhere useful, maybe you can look at uses of sunflowers throughout history. Or maybe you can explore appearances of the sunflower in literature, music and media and talk about the metaphorical significance in different cultures. I think you can do it. :)
Good luck!
Rain
While we're all interested in so many things and have been given the opportunity to write about anything, narrowing down the topic has been difficult. Like Rain asked, why are sunflowers important to you? What attracted you to sunflowers? That may be a good starting point. Are you interested in the aesthetic nature of sunflowers? The botany of sunflowers? The chemistry and uses of sunflowers and how they have benefited society? I like Rain's suggestion of exploring the significance of sunflowers in literature. Or maybe you can go the opposite direction and say that they're harmful to society and endangering the planet (although that might be very difficult to support). If you're still unsure, maybe talk to the grad students in the science department working with plants? They might have some interesting ideas for you.
